Forbes Vietnam’s issue No. 49 released in early June 2017 unveiled top 50 best Vietnamese publicly traded companies.

The potential candidates must undergo 3 screening criteria:

(1) Minimum revenue and market capitalization:  VND 300bn,

(2) FY16 sales over VND 150bn,

(3) Positive net profit after tax for FY16.

These companies were then evaluated based on their key financial metrics: compound annual growth rate of revenue, net profit, average ROC, ROE and EPS over five-year period from 2012-2016. The short-listed companies must then demonstrate not only bright financial performance but also strong sustainability factors such as corporate governance, industry standing, sources of profit, industry outlook, etc,..

Top 50’s cumulative market capitalization constituted 60% of the entire market. Total revenue and profit of Top 50 was VND734,822 bn and VND79,461 up 55% and 49% respectively.

The list is divided into 13 main categories, based on the industries in which the companies are operating.

Of agriculture group, Vinh Hoan (HSX: VHC) is the only seafood name honored. This is the 4th time in a row Vinh Hoan made its name to the list, thanks to its strong business performance in 2016 with profit after tax reaching VND567 bn, up 75% yoy. Notably, 2016 was the first year in its 5-year “Big Plans” which aimed to boost its margin by introducing premium Vietnamese seafood to the world. 2016 sales to new markets also recorded successful developments, with Vinh Foods (a Vinh Hoan’s brand) products sold in Mercadona- Spain’s largest supermarket chain. Vinh Hoan’s purchase deal of Thanh Binh Dong Thap offered an additional 400 tons/year in its total capacity by 2019. Vinh Hoan has been the market leader of Vietnam pangasius industry since 2010. In 2016, Mdm. Truong Thi Le Khanh – Vinh Hoan’s Chairwoman stepped down from management board, only serving as the Chairwoman of the Board of Directors.
