[Industry news] Pangasius raw materials price remained at record high at the beginning of Quarter 4

According to report issued by Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (“MARD”), through September, total pangasius farming area in Mekong Delta has reached 5,142.9 ha, slightly decreasing by 1.3% year-on-year. Total harvest volume reached 998,000MT, up by 9.8%. Dong Thap topped the provinces with volume of 390,00MT, up by 18.7% year-on-year, Can Tho with volume of 133,900MT, up  by 13.5%. On the contrary, farming declined sharply in some provinces such as Tien Giang (drop by 60.8%), Ben Tre (15.44%), Tra Vinh (13%) compared with the same period last year.

Through the end of September, Dong Thap has more than 1,20o establishments that produce and trade fingerlings, of which there are 76 production establishments and 1,150 nursery establishments, located in districts such as Hong Ngu, Cao Lanh, Chau Thanh. In the first 9 months, there were over 950 million of fingerlings and 13 billion of fries in commerce, meeting the demand of other provinces and Dong Thap itself.

In Sep 2017, the farms boosted up their harvesting activities to provide materials for year-end production. Raw materials prices was stable from VND24,000-26,500/kg, up by 19-20% year-on-year.

Raw materials pricing in Sep surged due to limited supply. Fingerlings price also went upward due to supply shortage and increasing demand in farming.

By end of Oct, early Nov, price continued to increase, in which type 1 material prices in Dong Thap ranged from VND28,000-30,500/kg. In An Giang, prices ranged from VND 28,000-28.500/kg. So far, the price of pangasius is keeping the record high of the year and higher than the same period last year by VND 5,000 – 6,500/kg.
